Introduction to Warwick Healthy Living Program

Our overall level of health has a tremendous impact on the quality of life we enjoy. Feelings of pain, sickness or even just discomfort in everyday activities can really take the edge off time spent at work, with our family or on our own interests. It is little wonder that when ill health is prolonged we begin to feel less positive and optimistic and may become irritable and downhearted. The Healthy Living Program has been designed to be a positive, practical and enjoyable way to improve your well-being.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Participate in hands-on experiences which will help you to develop nutritionally sound meals. Preparing and sharing food together benefits us in more ways than one. Food is one of the simple pleasures of life. Taking an interest in the qualities of various foods and learning how to prepare and combine them to produce delicious, healthy meals may even redefine our relationship with food and give us more confidence in our choices.
  • Learn stress management. The time-honoured tradition of classical Yoga introduces practices that soothe both body and mind. Gentle stretching always within your own limits combined with breathing techniques and physical and mental relaxation helps the metabolism to normalize, the mind to become more peaceful and the emotions to become more positive.
  • Share with others in group sessions. We can be helped along the road by benefitting from others’ experience whilst also allowing others to gain from our own triumphs and disasters!! Humour and a willingness to share can enrich our own journey of understanding the obstacles to personal growth and how to overcome them.
  • Have individual attention to help resolve issues that are holding you back from achieving your goals for improved health and well-being.

Who is it for?

The Healthy Living Program is for people with diabetes, heart disease or metabolic syndrome (a precursor to both). It has been designed for those patients who would benefit from a more intensive approach to setting and achieving their goals for better health.
